Email to Barak Obama / Correo a Barak Obama

As I mentioned in an earlier email, I’m not a voter, a US citizen, or living in the US. What I am is deeply interested in our world's political leaders and have a profound sympathy and connection with Obama in all respects. Looking at the my.barakobama.com section, I ask if it's legal to support from abroad, plan events, become a fundraiser, and write in the blog with ideas and suggestions.

Until then, I'll mention one idea here regarding the issues listed on the website:

I believe that a deep work has to be done in raising the cultural awareness of the American people towards the rest of the world in which we all live.

There is a staggering lack of knowledge and interest for what happens outside the borders of the US in terms of politics, geography, history, ecology, disasters, poverty, etc. (probably only business and sports are better known and this is obviously due to the nature of capitalism and entertainment). This translates to misconceived perceptions towards certain cultures and countries which can be either easily manipulated or simply grow into a lack of respect, which in turn tends to generate hatred from the counterpart (and this isn’t solved by “forcing to swallow the pill of democracy” through war).

Too many times have I personally seen and experienced this through a lifetime of visiting the US year after year, through watching the news, the media, talking with family, friends, business relations and other people I meet. I compare their interests, motivations, concerns, etc. to those of societies in Latin America and Europe.

This requires a lot of work, work that has to do with education and I didn't see any mention of this under “Improving Our Schools”, but it also has to do with "Strengthening America overseas", “Protecting Our Homeland”, “Plan to End Iraq War” and there is no mention of this anywhere.

I wrote in my personal blog "what I would do if I were president of the US”, and one point has to do with the perception other countries have of the US, its society and its interests abroad, another has to do with the way the Federal Budget is used (education and aid vs. military and defense). I believe that this is a crucial issue deeply rooted in part of the solution to the current war and terrorist threats.

Just as Barak tackles with clarity, intelligence and in a conciliatory way the roles of politics and religion, this issue shouldn't be avoided from debate and mapped into specific and concrete lines of present and future work.

I truly believe this is fundamental in promoting and constructing a global reconciliation leading to peace, lifting quality of life, saving our planet and increasing the overall collective conscious. All of this because of the role and influence the US has, and therefore, the responsibility of its society and leaders.

(y la tradicción en español, nuevamente gracias mama!)

Como lo mencioné anteriormente en un correo electrónico, no soy votante, ni ciudadano americano, ni vivo en los Estados Unidos. Tengo un interés real en nuestros líderes políticos a nivel mundial y una profunda solidaridad y conexión con Obama, en todos los sentidos. Al ver la sección my.barakobama.com, pregunto si es lícito el apoyar desde un país extranjero, planear eventos, recabar fondos, y escribir ideas y sugerencias en el blog.

Hasta que eso suceda, quiero mencionar aquí una idea relacionada a los asuntos mencionados en el sitio web.

Yo creo que se necesita realizar un trabajo a fondo para elevar la conciencia cultural de los americanos hacia el resto del mundo en el que todos vivimos.

Existe una sorprendente falta de conocimiento e interés por todo lo que sucede más allá de las fronteras de los Estados Unidos en cuanto a la política, geografía, historia, ecología, desastres naturales, pobreza, etc. (probablemente solo se conoce sobre los negocios y los deportes, y esto obviamente se debe a su naturaleza capitalista y de entretenimiento). Esto se traduce a percepciones equivocadas sobre ciertas culturas y países que o bien pueden ser manipuladas fácilmente, o simplemente se convierten en una falta de respeto, lo cual, a su vez, genera odio de la contraparte (y esto no se soluciona “forzando a que se traguen la pastilla de la democracia” por medio de la guerra).

Demasiadas veces he visto y experimentado personalmente, a través de toda una vida de visitar los Estados Unidos año tras año, al ver las noticias , a través de los medios, al platicar con la familia y amigos, por relaciones de negocios y otra gente que llego a conocer. Yo comparo sus intereses, motivación, inquietudes, etc. con otras sociedades de Latinoamérica y Europa.

Esto requiere mucho trabajo que tiene que ver con la educación y no vi mención alguna de ello en "Mejorando nuestras escuelas" (Improving Our Schools), pero también tiene que ver con “Fortaleciendo América en el extranjero" (Strengthening America overseas), “Protegiendo nuestra patria (Protecting Our Homeland), “Plan para terminar la guerra en Iraq" (Plan to End Iraq War) y no hay mención de esto en ningún lugar.

En mi blog personal, escribí “lo que yo haría si fuera presidente de los Estados Unidos”, y uno de los puntos tiene que ver con la percepción que otros países tienen de los Estados Unidos, su sociedad y sus intereses en el extranjero, otro tiene que ver con la manera en que se utiliza el Presupuesto Federal (la educación y ayuda humanitaria vs. el ejército y la defensa militar). Creo que este es un punto decisivo que en parte, está profundamente arraigado, en parte, en la solución a la guerra actual y las amenazas terroristas.

Así como Barak aborda con claridad, inteligencia y de manera conciliatoria los papeles de la política y la religión, este es un asunto que no debería eludir el debate y plasmarlo en líneas de trabajo específicas y concretas presentes y futuras.

Sinceramente creo que esto es fundamental en la promoción y construcción de una reconciliación global que conduzca a la paz, eleve la calidad de vida, salve a nuestro planeta y eleve la conciencia colectiva en general. Todo esto debido al papel e influencia que tiene los Estados Unidos, y por lo tanto, a la responsabilidad de sus líderes y su sociedad.
